Cinespia-Almost Famous

Tuesday, May 29, 2018

It's that time of year fam. Cinespia season has started for me!!

For most of you who are unfamiliar with Cinespia, its an outdoor movie experience in the heart of Hollywood at Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Yes as in cemetery where icons such as Alfred Hitchcock, Judy Garland, Johnny Ramone, Chris Cornell, Jayne Mansfield, Vampira, and many more classic Hollywood stars. This cemetery is open and free to the public during visiting hours where you can walk the grounds of the cemetery surrounded by towering palm trees, and you might even catch some of the cemetery's famous peacocks (along with some cute geese and cats.)
Some small tips to make your cinespia outing easy and fun:
  • you can line up in the front lawn area of the cemetery, you'll be able to drink (yes drink alcohol) and eat while you wait for doors to open,
  • and YES you can also bring your own food and drinks into the event just no spirits, George usually buys a pizza, I'll buy some pupusas from a bakery nearby, or chips and dip bread and cheese etc.
  • once inside you can lay down your stuff I usually use my blue tarp that way the moisture from the grass doesn't seep to the blanket because if you leave it alone for a long time it will feel damp.
  • get to the photobooth as early as you can so you can take your pic with your cool outfits and then you can relax in the blankets.
  • if you have lawn chairs bring those, there is a designated area where guests with lawn chairs sit and it works out for everyone really!
  • have fun and dress up! It's my favorite part of these events.

So they announced the movie screening and they had TWO movies George and I were dying to see up first was Almost Famous. I first saw this movie when it was on Netflix this was the summer I was obsessed with the 70s. I cry in every movie, so this was no different. The parallels from the mom to the daughter and from Penny and Russell(pre-Kevin obviously,) I found myself connected to this movie in many ways. I have always listened to classic rock music thanks to my parents and jokingly always said I wanted to be a groupie....see I didn't know what a groupie meant so you can imagine the concern my mother had when I said this out loud. Now we know Penny be lying saying she was there for the music but I WOULD BE A BAND-AID FOR THE MUSIC AIGHT.  Anywho this movie is awesome and I loved it so much and I choose to dress up as Penny Lane in the movie.

The outfit was pretty easy to put together! I had my flare pants and chunky shoes from my 21st birthday. The shirt I purchased off of Poshmark and the jacket I got from Depop! For my hair, I used foam curlers in order to get really curly hair like Penny did. It was very effective and didn't kill my hair as if used with heat. I kept my makeup natural with the basics.

This was such a great nice and I was happy to spend time with such close friends
