ATTENTION SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!
So last Friday night Annie, Jay, Kevin and I went to see Coco in theatres, and let me tell you the film went beyond my expectations.
We need to take a moment to appreciate the animators because they did such a BEAUTIFUL job. They beautifully displayed color and animation that I would say resembles the colorful and vibrant Latinx culture, in this case we'll say Mexican culture because it was taken place in Mexico (Dia De Los Muertos is celebrated in other parts of central america as well fyi but I digress.) The animators did such a wonderful job also with the scenery in the "land of the living" I guess we'll say the neighborhood that Miguel lived in reminded me so much of where my abuela lives both in Guatemala City and Malacatan. When the land of the dead was revealed it was a beautiful vibrant glowing scenery that took my breathe away, add in some Spanish guitar and yes I was tearing up.
Let's just talk about how I related to sooo many things in this movie.

Now, this movie made me cry from the beginning to end.

*For one, the fact that there was Latino representation in Disney meant the world to me, which caused me to tear up.

*Opening credits began and Miguel told us his family story, which hit close to home a little  My abuelos didn't necessarily leave my abuelas but they died while both my mom and dad were young. So the story of Mama Imelda reminded me of my women in family stories which was to come out of something horrible winning.

*When Miguel was showing us how he hangs out with mama Coco it was the sweetest thing ever, also Mama Coco resembles my great abuela from my dads side of the family who passed away a few years ago, so it made me tear up seeing her from time to time, especially when she would forget the names in the movies because my great abuela did that too and would mistake me for my tias.

*WHEN MIGUEL SAID DIMPLE OR NO DIMPLE I WAS LIKE MEEEEEEEE hahaha I have one on my left side when I smile.

* When Abuelita said don't name the street dogs or they'll follow you I laughed so hard because my mom would tell me her mom said that to her all the time.

*LA CHANCLA-enough said

*Any movie that has a father daughter relationship, I will be moved to tears. When the flashback revealed Hector and Coco singing "Remember Me" as a lullaby I LOST IT! First off, it was a touching moment, second of all, Hector looked like my dad, and if you know me I'm super close with my dad especially when I was little, so it made me cry even harder.

*When Miguel went to find Mama Coco after returning to the land of the living and began singing "Remember Me" I LOST IT AGAIN!!!! She so clearly remembers her father no matter how much her own mother and even daughter suppresses Hector, she even had a notebook with the letters he sent her and his part of the photo that was ripped off of the ofrenda. I related to her there as well.

*The plot twist is genius wow didn't see it coming, Kevin did but he's good at that kind of stuff haha

*The concept of forgiveness between Imelda and Hector was touching

*The concept of death was touched on, but to know that in the end family will always be together even after death is very comforting and even then they still watch over you in the heavens while on Earth.

*The concept of family was beautiful.

I highly recommend this movie 10?10 and definitely see this with your family over the holidays, you won' be disappointed!!

oh and the frozen short was cute but way too long. save it Disney
