How I shop:

Wednesday, November 20, 2019

As a college student I don't go out as much and I don't have that much money to spend. I also try to reduce my carbon footprint as much I can.  According to Business Insider,
"Fashion production makes up 10% of humanity's carbon emissions, dries up water sources, and pollutes rivers and streams."
I try to do my best in helping the environment where ever I can, whether that is becoming vegetarian, taking the bus once in a while,  and in this case buying thrifted/second hand clothing. So, over the past two to three years I've been shopping online through depop and poshmark. At first I mostly bought things for my Cinespia costumes but soon found myself looking at other clothes that would be used daily. I found that the style I wanted and the certain items I wanted weren't in the stores it was online on depop and poshmark. I honestly just search moods or keywords in the search bar, for example, I really like peasant style/victorian shirts and dresses so I simply search whatever I'm looking for and there will be tons of options.
What I also love about this ARE THE PRICES! Man when I tell you I found such hidden gems on these apps, it's amazing. Here are some of the few things that I've thrifted/ bought second hand!
I got this free people dress for only 30 bucks and these boots for 30$ as well!!

I got this Columbia jacket for $4!!!!! LIKE ARE YOU KIDDING ME, I also got this mountain hardware hiking shirt for $10! I like to use the website especially for hiking and camping gear, it can usually be expensive and a college girl aint got that kind of money so this was a big deal for me. I also got two REI shirts for $24 a big steal.

I got this super cute sweater for $30, a little pricey but still a cute staple to transition into fall and spring.

This really cute beret for $9 and definitely is the best pick up because of the style of beret and the color.

So yeah I love these two apps for good affordable and sustainable shopping! These are some of my favorite show, in no particular order, where I've purchased from before:
One of this biggest tips I can give when buying online clothing is measuring yourself. I wasn't fond of the idea but when you can't try on things OR return something that doesn't fit, it's a drag. Most sellers will post measurements for a more accurate fit as well as sizes. One thing I'm terrified of doing is pants, I ordered pants and I had the measurements right but the sizing was for a kids not a women, welp, but it was only $5, so I wasn't too annoyed. That bring's me to the next topic, SALES, apart from having really good prices already, many shops and apps themselves will have sales, buy one get one free or everything $10 under, which is usually where I do my shopping. I have my likes and see what available and pull the trigger when I want to.

I hope this helps you guys because I love sharing my experiences when it comes to saving money and what works for me!
